Nodules are the main risk with powder-type collagen boosters. Hydrating at least 24 hours ahead, layer-specific technique and area limits prevent them.

Hello. This is Dr. Lee Yumin of MeSOnBom Clinic.
Juvelook, the most popular collagen skin booster, is a product we have been using for more than seven years, building up experience since its earlier incarnation.
To keep nodules — the clumping that is the main side effect of Juvelook — at zero, we hold strictly to a principle of hydrating at least 24 hours in advance, and to safe technique matched to the skin layer.
Let me explain in more detail.
Juvelook shares the same base ingredients — PDLLA and hyaluronic acid — but divides into two lines by particle size: blue (skin booster) and black (volume).
The placement and technique differ completely according to the purpose.
Before Juvelook became widespread there was Sculptra, a powder-type collagen stimulant working on a similar principle.
Sculptra is excellent at creating volume, but injected into areas where the skin is thin it readily produced nodules — firm clumping.
From long experience handling powder-type products since the Sculptra era, the probability of nodules inevitably rises as the number of cases grows.
So safe technique that shuts the side effect out at source matters more than anything.
Here are the three points that have allowed us to keep nodule cases at zero over many years.
Principle 1: complete hydration at least 24 hours ahead.
Hydration is the process of mixing powder-form Juvelook evenly with saline without clumping. The manufacturer says hydration 30 minutes beforehand is possible, but holding to the stricter standard of the Sculptra era, I do not rely on that.
We hydrate at least 24 hours ahead, in line with the treatment schedule.
Immediately before treatment we mix for a further 20 minutes with a dedicated shaker, then draw the solution into the syringe.
A fact check: patients sometimes ask to see a new Juvelook package opened in front of them. Because of the pre-hydration principle that prevents nodules, opening and treating on the spot on the day is simply not possible. This is a measure for your safety, and we ask for your understanding.
Principle 2: precise technique that respects the skin layer.
Skin booster: to prevent clumping and place it evenly, we prefer to use Potenza or DermaShine. Where a manual injection is used, we target the lower dermis, slightly deeper than for Rejuran, to prevent nodules.
Volume: using a cannula, we place it in the subcutaneous fat layer carefully, spreading it widely and evenly.
Principle 3: limiting areas where it should not be pushed.
Areas with very thin skin, such as under the eyes or the temples, are where nodules form most easily.
Results matter, but safety comes first, so we do not recommend treating thin skin where the risk of side effects is high.
Over many years and many cases with Juvelook, holding strictly to the data on what is risky is why we have continued without nodule side effects.
Results matter, but for a doctor safety matters most.
So many people ask about Juvelook that there are a great many questions.
I will share more information about it next time. Thank you for reading to the end.
