When a cool breeze starts to appear morning and evening, the skin turns dry and loses firmness, and hollow cheeks or fine lines stand out every time one looks in the mirror.
In consultation, many people say, "I'd like to restore volume to my face, but artificial-looking filler frightens me and I hesitate."
When someone wants to wake the collagen already in their skin and recover natural regeneration and firmness, the treatment I most often suggest is Juvelook.
Today I want to set out what characterises Juvelook, along with the technique that raises its effect safely without concern about nodules.
Juvelook is an injectable combining PDLLA (Poly-D, L-Lactic Acid) with hyaluronic acid (HA), which prompts the skin to generate collagen itself.
Names once used variously, such as Lenisna and Ettrebelle, have been consolidated by the manufacturer under the single Juvelook brand, and it is now widely known by that name.
Sculptra (PLLA), the first-generation collagen-stimulating injectable used previously, produced excellent volume, but the nature of its particles made nodules — clumping of the particles — more likely in areas where the skin is thin.
Juvelook addresses that limitation: manufactured as round particles with a porous, reticulated structure, it markedly lowers the risk of nodules while supporting natural skin regeneration.
Juvelook comes in two forms according to particle size — the skin booster (blue) and the volume (black) — and the depth and method of injection differ completely according to the area of concern.
Juvelook skin booster — blue packaging; particles of about 30μm; used for fine lines, pores, skin texture and rebuilding the dermal barrier; injected from the upper to the lower dermis; delivered with Potenza, Dermashine or fine dermal injection.
Juvelook Volume — black packaging; particles of about 80μm; used for deep hollowing of the cheeks, contour refinement and restoring depressed scars; injected into the subcutaneous fat layer; delivered with a blunt cannula.
The skin booster's particles are fine, so it is injected into shallower layers to improve texture and pores; the volume form has particles more than twice the size, injected into deeper layers to fill depressions.
With a powder-form collagen injectable, nodules can occur when hydration is inadequate or when the layer injected does not suit the condition of the skin.
To prevent nodules at source, the following three-stage safety protocol must be followed strictly.
Dissolving the powder completely in saline without clumping is the first step in preventing complications.
The manufacturer recommends hydration 30 minutes before treatment, but to maximise safety we carry out pre-hydration at least 24 hours ahead, in line with the booking schedule.
Immediately before treatment, dedicated hydration vibration equipment mixes the solution continuously for 20 minutes, and only then is it drawn into the syringe.
When the skin booster is given by hand injection, it is placed evenly in the lower dermis — slightly deeper than Rejuran — to prevent nodules in the epidermal layer.
Juvelook Volume is delivered with a blunt-tipped cannula, laid finely and broadly through the subcutaneous fat layer so that it does not clump.
In areas where the skin is extremely thin, such as under the eyes or at the temples, even slight clumping of particles can show through.
Rather than extending the treatment area unreasonably, we take a conservative and careful approach, working mainly in areas that are both effective and free of nodule risk.
Q1. What are the advantages of Juvelook Volume over a conventional hyaluronic acid filler?
A. Filler fills empty space immediately with a gel of external material, so it can occasionally migrate or be felt as a foreign body. Juvelook Volume instead builds up your own collagen gradually, so there is no sensation of a foreign body and it looks very natural in expression.
Q2. How much downtime — bumpiness, bruising or swelling — is there, and when can I wear makeup?
A. It differs with the method of injection and skin type, but the fine bumpiness that appears after a skin booster treatment is usually absorbed naturally within one to three days. Light washing with water is possible from the same day, and makeup and ordinary activity are comfortable from the following day once the injection marks have settled, so the downtime burden is relatively low.
Q3. Can I have it on the same day as a lifting laser such as Ulthera or Thermage?
A. Yes, provided the order is observed. Having the lifting treatment that delivers thermal energy (RF or ultrasound) first and Juvelook afterwards allows the regenerative stimulus of the laser and Juvelook's collagen-stimulating action to work together, helping to enhance remodelling in the dermis.
Juvelook is a safe treatment that completes natural volume and firmness by inducing your own skin's collagen regeneration rather than filling artificially.
Because it is a powder preparation, however, careful pre-hydration by the medical team and precise injection into the target layer are both required for a satisfactory result without complications.
