To keep the risks and side effects of sedation out of our practice while still minimising pain, we use Airnox, a conscious gas sedation system.
Treatments known for pain, such as Rejuran Healer and skin botox, can now be received safely and comfortably without sedation.
We have held to a principle of not offering sleep sedation, putting patient safety first.
Ulthera and Thermage: our thorough nerve block controls the pain well enough, and satisfaction is very high.
Rejuran, skin botox and hydrating injections: because of the nature of these treatments, nerve block alone has limits and it is hard to raise satisfaction with it.
After considering the alternatives carefully, we introduced Airnox — a safe solution that keeps you conscious while lowering your sensitivity to pain.
Airnox is a pain-reduction system using a blend of medical nitrous oxide (N2O) and oxygen, inhaled through the breath to produce conscious sedation.
How it works: you hold a single-use mouthpiece and breathe deeply for about a minute, entering a light, hazy state in which sensitivity to pain falls considerably. (Breathing through the nose reduces the effect, so the nose is held closed.)
Recovery: immediately after treatment, breathing 100% pure oxygen deeply for about a minute brings you round straight away and you can return to your day. Because you do not fall fully asleep as with sedation, you can communicate with the medical team throughout.
Before introducing it, every doctor and member of staff here, myself included, had Rejuran and skin botox under Airnox.
Effect: for those who do not usually drink, the sedative effect was fast and strong enough that holding the nose closed was not even necessary.
A caution (individual variation): for those with a high alcohol tolerance or who drink frequently, the effect can be relatively weaker.
